Method Overview

The Ethical Design Scorecard is an assessment technique that is designed to help practitioners investigate the ethical implications of their products and services. The method employs a weighted assessment criteria to determine the ethical implications of different criteria and provides information on areas that require improvement and those that are going well.

Getting Started

Materials: Excel sheet available from the book website

Participants: Individual/ Team (1-2 Participants)

Steps (from the Ethical Design Handbook website):

  1. Download the Excel sheet from the website.
  2. Open the excel sheet and select the domain for evaluation (e.g., Data Science, UX).
  3. Conduct the assessment by choosing a score for each of the assessment category.
  4. Reflect on the scores and determine ways to improve, if necessary.
